As soft as concrete
Relationship is the key note of this project.
The relationship between open and closed, heavy and light, and between clean new materials and those already scratched and worn. Above all, it is the relationship between exposed concrete and everything around it.
Concrete is not an easy material. It requires the best professionals, allows almost no margin for error, and is expensive. Yet, once these challenges are overcome, it provides a solid foundation and architectural framework that few other materials can rival.
In our perception, the only valid rule about concrete is that there are no rules.
Many people associate concrete with a clean, sterile aesthetic, best suited to “museum architecture.” We do not. We believe it works beautifully with a damaged wooden floor marked by years of use, a table made from reclaimed crate boards, and polished copper lamps.
It also connects naturally with the garden. Especially the garden.
