Patio inside

Weizmann Street is one of those Tel Aviv streets you feel you already know. Even without having visited it, you have probably walked along many similar streets: nostalgic, low-rise and green, lined with the white buildings we associate so strongly with the city.

The entrepreneur asked us to design a contemporary residential building that would make full use of the available building rights. The challenge was clear. Using the entire permitted volume could have resulted in a large and heavy structure, disconnected from the scale and character of the street and permanently appearing newer than its neighbours.

To avoid this, we introduced a green patio at the centre of the building. The patio improves natural ventilation within the apartments, creates open and comfortable vertical circulation areas, and breaks down the overall mass.

Instead of being perceived as a single massive volume, the building becomes lighter, more open and better integrated into its surroundings.

The patio was also designed as a shared social space, encouraging spontaneous encounters between residents around the staircase and the lift - just as it used to be.

רחוב ויזל הוא מאותם רחובות תל אביביים מוכרים: נמוכים, ירוקים ונוסטלגיים, עם הבניינים הלבנים המזוהים כל כך עם העיר.

האתגר היה לממש את מלוא זכויות הבנייה מבלי ליצור מסה כבדה ומנותקת מהרחוב. לכן תוכנן פטיו ירוק במרכז הבניין, המכניס אור ואוויר, משפר את האוורור הטבעי ומפרק את נפח המבנה.

הפטיו משמש גם כמרחב משותף סביב המדרגות והמעלית, ומעודד מפגשים אקראיים בין הדיירים. כך הבניין נעשה קל, פתוח ומשתלב טוב יותר בסביבתו.
