Air force museum competition
How do you design a museum for something that was never meant to stand still?
Aircraft are built for movement, speed and distance. A museum, on the other hand, is usually designed around objects that remain in place. This contradiction became the starting point for our proposal for the new Air Force Museum.
We wanted the museum to feel less like a closed collection of exhibits and more like a journey through space, technology, memory and flight.
The project was organised as a sequence of open and enclosed spaces, allowing visitors to experience the aircraft from different heights, distances and points of view. Large exhibition areas were combined with more intimate spaces dedicated to personal stories, historical events and the people behind the machines.
Rather than treating the aircraft only as objects, the proposal used them to define the scale, movement and atmosphere of the building. The architecture was designed to frame them, reveal them gradually and create a continuous relationship between the museum and the open sky.
The result is a museum that looks toward the past while remaining connected to the future - a place where engineering, history and architecture meet.
