Urban renewal, reuse and sustainability stand at the centre of contemporary architectural discussions. There is no shortage of debate, but still far too little action.

In this project, we were given the opportunity to do something practical.

The project is a business hotel located in one of Israel’s busiest commercial districts. The first three storeys are currently occupied by an old industrial building. Instead of demolishing it and starting again, we chose to preserve most of the existing structure.

Although the majority of the building mass will remain, its appearance and internal organisation will change extensively. The industrial character will continue through the large loft-style rooms, while new facilities and modern systems will bring the building up to date and adapt it to its new function.

Several additional floors will rise above the existing structure. These will be built using dry construction technologies, allowing for faster construction and lighter structural systems.

Equally important, the new design draws directly from the authentic industrial character of the original building.

The vision is to create a practical model for renewal. The functions and design are replaced, but considerable attention is given to reusing resources that have already been invested in the site.

We do not believe that every new project needs to begin with demolition. Sometimes, the existing foundations are not an obstacle, but the best place to start.

בפרויקט הזה ניתנה לנו הזדמנות לפעול בפועל: להסב מבנה תעשייתי ישן במרכז מסחרי עמוס למלון עסקים, תוך שמירה על רוב השלד הקיים במקום להרוס ולהתחיל מחדש.

האופי התעשייתי נשמר בחדרים רחבי ידיים בסגנון לופט, בעוד מערכות חדשות וקומות נוספות בבנייה קלה מתאימות את המבנה לשימושו החדש. הפרויקט מציע מודל מעשי להתחדשות, שבו הקיים אינו מכשול אלא נקודת מוצא.
